Who ever knew that after a very long time, something you thought you have forgotten can still sting?
Ewan ko rin, mehehe =D
I can smell the start of classes already :/
Filipino families traditionally have a relative of some sorts in their household together with the family itself (Mother, father + sons and daughters). That was the case on our house for the better part of the past decade. However, that ends here in 2012.
When I started elementary school, my grandfather, male cousin, and an uncle (all from my mom’s side) started living in our house. It was actually a fun experience for all of us as the real sense of family was never amiss in our small house. Perhaps in our subdivision, this house is one of the smaller ones but that was never an issue.
After five years or so, my uncle went to work abroad. So two of my “extended” family were left. My male cousin followed after he had a son, so my grandfather remained.
This past month though, my grandfather passed away. Sure, we had some problems but those were due to my childish instincts and the complications of his aging. His death was really unexpected. I still had classes in eLBi so I was off to Laguna two days before that dreadful afternoon. The last look I left him was a look of his disgust as he was giving everyone a hard time because of his complications. That is something I really regret. A bad choice in my case, but that was the last time I ever saw him alive. To this day, I still feel bad about that. In his heydays, he never forgot to make me and my brother smile with his stories. Even if he recycles his tales every time. Those were still fun to hear.
After his funeral, my other uncle (from my mother’s side) lived with us. Until today, that is. He left for work abroad this morning. That ends having someone aside from my mom, dad, and brother which I can share my stories and whom I can have fun with as well. No, calling them an “extended” family wouldn’t work. They have become my family as well.
